Brochure MONTESSORI TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE (MTTI) offers a complete, in-residence teacher training program in the Montessori Method of Education. MTTI promotes and maintains the highest standards and interpretations of the Montessori Method of education, and yet remains open to the most advanced research and innovations being made in the field of philosophy, psychology and educational theory today! MTTI is committed to the concept of integral education. We believe that our teachers must be prepared to facilitate the physical, intellectual, emotional, psychic and spiritual development of the child. The focus of the training institute is the child, and our commitment is to the care and education of children through the preparation of well trained, responsible, sensitive and professional Montessori teachers. We are looking for adults who are deeply committed to the care and study of the young child, to be trained in the method that facilitates and nurtures the child’s optimum development. MTTI is affiliated to the International Association of Progressive Montessori (IAPM). The diploma awarded by IAPM to our graduates is recognized internationally. IAPM was established in London in 1968 by Angela Martin. It is a founding member of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), which is the organization that accredits Montessori teacher education courses worldwide. THE COURSE The academic phase (300 hours) course work includes Stages of Childhood Growth and Development; Montessori Philosophy, Theory, and Methodology; Motor Development and Control of Movement through the Exercises of Practical Life; Sensorial Foundation for Intellectual Life; The Acquisition of Language and Literacy Skills through a Structured Sequence of Activities; The Preparation of the Mathematical Mind; The Cultural Curriculum; Observation Techniques; classroom Management; Parent Education; and Administrative Requirements. Four textbooks and all methodology notes will be given to students. THE PRACTICUM A one-year (340 hours) practicum at an approved Montessori school is a necessary requirement for the successful completion of the Montessori teacher training. EXAMINATIONS A written exam and a practical exam will be given at the end of the course. This Final Exam will be based on knowledge of Montessori materials, Montessori theory and philosophy. ECE UNITS Students shall receive 30 ECE Units from the Institute which is approved by the Bureau For Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. DIPLOMA A Montessori Teacher’s Diploma will be awarded (for the ages 2 ½ - 6 years) by the International Association of Progressive Montessori to students who successfully complete all phases of the Montessori Teacher Training program. This includes the following: Development and Maintenance of curriculum manuals Five written papers on Montessori theory & philosophy Student made materials for language and cultural subjects Presenting materials during practice sessions Preparation & presentation of an original lesson Ten observation reports Oral, practical and written examinations One year practicum REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION Applicants are required to have graduated high school and have a good general education. A B.A. degree is desired, but not required. Passing the entrance exam, two letters of recommendation concerning the applicant’s character and ability to complete the course are required. A Criminal Record Clearance will be required before placement in a practicum site. The course is nonsectarian and admits all students and staff regardless of race, color, sex, or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in a school.
